As the victims of crime, Indian women also experience “more extreme violence” than other women, Deer says. “One of the reasons is the idea that Native women are less valuable. You see that play out in places like Anchorage, the rape capital of the United States, where Native women are targeted in bars. A crime mapping of sexual assaults reported in Anchorage showed a clear pattern of predatory behavior that was targeted against Native women.”
Interviews in the new study showed that Indian women often encounter racism among sex buyers. “When a man looks at a prostitute and a Native woman, he looks at them the same: ‘Dirty,’” one woman said.
“A john said to me, ‘I thought we killed all of you,’” reported another prostitute.

Okay but Castiel killed his brothers and sisters, not even just random ones but people like Balthazar, Anna, and Rachel — whom we can assume he loved. Why wasn’t it a bigger deal that he was murdering his own family to help and protect the Winchesters? You’d think Sam and Dean of…

Hol’ up. Country club? Hmm… Strangely, I’m not suprised. lol And, you would think that Stephen would’ve taught them by now.
ha ha right? Somehow the country club gives him the impression of a rich d-bag. But NO he is not one! And the kids swimming, the guy just mentioned that in passing! And he was asking me repeatedly if I was aware how his daughter is almost my age. Pfft! As if I care!
He also didn’t seem to think so highly of Stephen, which got me furious! Screw you kid—whose shoes I would kill to be on—for not recognising how lucky you are!
LOOB That was my first reaction. That man doesn’t belong in a country club. It’s for douchebags, most of the time. I know he isn’t, but still, I’m kind of disappointed. If that makes any sense at all. :)
That dude clearly doesn’t appreciate the opportunity he was given. If I were him, well… I’d probably be stalking Stephen and recaping everything on tumblr. lol
I understand what you mean. I got a lil kinda disappointed too. I didn’t wanna say that word but nth else comes close! But man, he’s rich and a celebrity so it’s expected, right? Idk maybe we just hold him to a standard way too high? He’s human after all. :’( :/ It’s still sad though.
ha ha…and yep! TOTALLY! Oh hey look he’s wearing plaid today! Or OMG he’s making barbecue! ha ha ha…and run to the house at every opportunity! he he..throw a ball down and be Excuse me sir, our ball came through your fence! HA HA…wouldnt that be awesome? How’d you think he’d be as a neighbor? Like the old man shouting at the kids? I HOPE NOT. The super strict celebrity? (the country club gives that impression ae?)
I totally agree. We have such high expectations for our idols, so when something like that comes up, we get disappointed, because they’re not like we imagined. It’s silly, but I guess we often forget that we don’t really know them. When you take his upbringing, his social status, it sort of makes sense. I wouldn’t be suprised if Evie hadn’t had something to do with it also tbh. I bet it’s a good place where the family can relax, but for me those country clubs are mostly associated with snobbery and there’s that whole social class issue too. I personally don’t dig that at all.
I think he may be a cool neighbor. Let’s be honest, everyone like him. Elderly, adults, teenagers, children, and even animals. He’s the man.
Not debating that! But you could use the same super-high-standard argument again. Who knows? I really don’t want to think like this, but that guy talking about it yesterday like no big deal got me a little bit grounded too. Like do I really see him with this skewed grandiose eyes? He’s an amazing human being but am I seeing a little bit too much? Ah man! I DON’T want to think that and yet I am! ARRGH.
And that’s not even the worst part is. Suppose, just for a sec that he’s “just an average Joe” we literally have nothing to say/feel/defend ourselves against. I mean, he is not obliged IN ANY WAY to be as awesome as we imagine him to be. You know what I am sayin?
OKAY WE NEED TO STOP TALKING ABOUT THIS. I AM DISTRUSTING HUMANITY IF I AM DISTRUSTING COLBERT.
This conversation is turning into a real downer. We need to stop. lol Even if he’s a member of some country club that doesn’t mean shit, because we all know how fucking awesome that guy is, so let him have that cc. Unless I meet, befriend and confront him about it, this shouldn’t bother me this much, because everything he’s done so far speaks for itself and tells me that he’s probably as great as we I think (despite having some few flaws here and there).
It’s ok. We can breathe now.
Guys. Colby is the sweetest, nicest person I’ve ever met. Such a gentleman and very kind. Don’t worry about the country club. Just know that he is the nicest person I’ve ever spoken to. I hope that makes you feel better…
When I was at Boston Comic Con, I stopped by to chat with Cliff Chiang who told me there was a young man who was a fan of the blog looking for me. I never met with him at the show but did catch up with him in my quest for guest posters for my vacation week. I soon pieced together that this was actually a young writer for Boston University whose writing on other topics had caught my eye. Please meet Jon Christianson, who today writes about female villains.
“Why can’t female villains stay villains?”
That statement, made by Grace Randolph during her Between the Pages webshow, brings up the curious conundrum of why so many of the already few female villains never seem to stay on “the dark side” for long.
Catwoman went from being one of Batman’s greatest foes to being one of his greatest allies. Black Widow started out as a Russian spy, Black Cat intended to be more evil before meeting Spider-Man, and Emma Frost, Scarlet Witch, and Rogue all got their start opposing the X-Men. Since the New 52 reboot, Poison Ivy is now on the Birds of Prey and Silver Banshee has been hanging out with Supergirl. What is going on here.
